Four Wheeler Parachute Braking

The following is a quote from a time gone by:

"You haven't seen a four-wheeler fly until you've seen ours being jerked to an abrupt stop by a parachute made from a tarp. The parachute is about 15'x15' square. The first day that we tried this, the wind was blowing about 40mph and we would deploy the chute at a ground speed of about 35mph. The force of this was enough to lift the rear-end of the 1000lb+ four wheeler off of the ground and stop it in less than 15 feet, then pull it backwards. This was one of the most fun rides that we ever made. One time I went too fast and the rope broke, so maybe we will add a second parachute or something."

Unfortunately, the four wheeler was recently traded for a finish mower, so there will be no more experiments involving parachuting ATV's.  Maybe we could try something with one of the garden tractors.
